Shooty Skies - Arcade Flyer - App Review

Shooty Skies - Arcade Flyer for Apple iOS and Android is actually a clone that stretches all the way back to the 80’s arcade classic, 1943 The Battle of Midway, which in turn was based on historical events of World War II. The game is heavy on pixels and boasts some modest replay fun. (cont'd)

Shooty Skies - Arcade Flyer plays in portrait, and like the arcade original, you’re tasked with taking to the skies and blasting the crap outta anything that moves. The graphics look like someone popped acid then went for broke with both guns a-blazing. You’re flying atop unicorns that poop rainbows and an array of kooky enemies that hurl game controllers, sickles and anything that isn’t bolted down in this pixel paradise. This is what it looks like if Fruit Loops and Rainbow Bright have a love child inspired by Picasso.

The action is non-stop, er, well, until a projectile connects with ye ol’ magic unicorn, then it’s toast city. The animation certainly has plenty to render and moves at a good clip. Each time you bite it, you’re offered the chance to resume from whence you left off for the cost of a few meager gold pixel coins, which will cost you real coins outta your own pocket, or credit card, as the case may be. Or you could watch a video and earn some coins on the cheap. Either way, you’re gonna be hitting that replay button often and hurling expletives at your screen like a crazy homeless person muttering incoherently with an imaginary friend.

Shooty Skies - Arcade Flyer is one of those time killers you’ll play while waiting in line, sitting in a doctor’s office on alone in your room on a Saturday night. It’s good fun and I love its arcade roots and over the top eye candy visuals; it’s nummy-nummy.
