Bubble Genius isn't forging any new ground here, but what it does do rather well, is entertain. You see, there's this gal named Penny, and she's got all sorts of kooky contraptions. I was actually wondering if she was named after Penny from the Big Bang Theory, seeing as they're all geniuses that we know and love. Yes, I know Penny from the TV show isn't one of the geniuses, but that's usually how this stuff works when borrowing from popular franchises, but I digress.

Back to Bubble Genius, the game is played in portrait and there's a collection of bubbles at the top of your screen, traveling upwards off screen. Below that, stands Penny and her trusty robot... cat? Dog? R2-D2, George Jetson, something or other. Anyways, your mission, is to launch bubbles from Penny’s remote controlled bubble shooter and try to hit matching bubbles in the puzzle above. If you make contact with 2 or more matching bubbles, they all burst and disappear. The bubbles are arranged in clusters, and if you strategize and aim high, you can get big clusters of them to drop and burst in a huge chain reaction. Remember, always aim high.

You get 2 balls in a rotating carousel, and can select which of the two you’d like to shoot. Then of course, there’s special power-ups, explosive bubbles and a whole boat load of special effects that make bubbles go pop. The graphics are very cool and the animation is entertaining. If you keep an eye on Penny, she does all sorts of goofy things. Oh, and there’s fuzzy monsters trapped in some of the bubbles, and you gotta pop all the surrounding bubbles to free them. Like I said, it’s a lot like Panda Pop.

Bubble Genius is lively, lighthearted and certainly entertaining. This is one of those apps that you can keep on your phone and come back to it whenever you have some time to kill. It’s lots of fun, and totally better than popping those plastic bubble wraps that come in shipping boxes.
