Monkey King Escape app for Apple iOS and Android presents in portrait mode to deliver an energetic runner game. We’ve all seen this genre done countless times over, however, not quite like this. As the story goes, there’s a little monkey that’s fed up with performing for peanuts, so in the tradition of many talented lead singers, he ditches band to go it solo. Well, the organ grinder goons aren’t all too happy about that, so they take off after Mr. Monkey and it’s a balls to the wall foot race. There’s the usual obstacles to avoid by dodging left and right, or by sliding and leaping over them. But things get really interesting if you’re able to nab any of the cool power ups, which cause you to shape-shift into different animals and trigger all sorts of cool stuff. I was especially fond of the underground sequences, which featured and almost roller coaster sorta pathway to run, with severe peaks, valleys and gut wrenching perspectives sure to induce vertigo and vomiting in lesser players.

The controls use directional swipes and slides to make the magic happen, and all functioned as expected. The graphics are outstandingly detailed, matched by eye candy colors that glow and twinkle with spectacular clarity. No kidding, the graphics are that good. The animation is excellent, featuring some really cool visual triggers to keep you engaged. The sound offer some nice audio punctuation to match this energetic game.

Monkey King Escape app for Apple iOS and Android is just good clean fun for gamers of all ages and skill levels, though some will suck at it more than others. This is one of those games that’s as fun to look at as it is to play. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and recommend it highly. It strikes a nice balance between modern gaming and a retro sensibility that keeps you coming back for more.
