Abyss Attack app for Apple iOS and Android is a super cool retro game that aims to be an arcade classic. Blast the crap outta everything that moves in this vertically moving action game that goes for broke. This one has outstanding visuals and is a gamer’s game. (continued)

Abyss Attack app presents in portrait mode to deliver a game inspired by the retro arcade classic, Midway 1941. The play is similar to Midway, but takes some liberties of its own to deliver a hugely entertaining action shooter, set to what looks to be deep space, or the depths of a weird, uncharted ocean. As the story goes, you are the pilot of an old school, steampunk looking space craft, and the environment you traverse is undulating with strange, neon glowing sorta flora and enemies to blast and avoid. Fly vertically through this veritable eye candy environment to go as far as you can and best your last score. This one has a high replay value and intoxicating visuals that are sure to entertain.

The controls use a lone screen touch and slide to deliver the goods; just place your finger onscreen, and slide it around to move and fly your craft. The shooting happens automatically, so all you gotta do is fly and steer clear of any obstacles.  The graphics feature some vibrant imagery that’s rich in detail, oozing vibrancy and dripping with saturation. This is one of those eye candy games that looks good enough to eat. The animation has lots of flash and pop here to render, with spectacularly entertaining explosions and neon glow enemies that are almost a shame to shoot and make go boom. The sounds feature a cool music score and energetic effects, offering quality acoustic accompaniment to the play.

Abyss Attack app for Apple iOS and Android is one of my favorite games from the lost, overlooked and largely forgotten category. I’m not sure why this one isn’t a bigger hit than it is. This one is sure to entertain retro gaming enthusiasts and is as much fun to look at as it is to play. Truly a quality game that deserves an appreciative audience.
