Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Rush presents in portrait mode to deliver a tried and true runner game, imbued with all things Strawberry Shortcake. Typical to runner games like this, there’s 3 lanes of travel, and your mission, is to run like crap and dodge left and right to avoid obstacles and go as far as you can. Naturally, there’s some cool power ups to collect along the way, like the watering can that sprouts a humungous flower, and the magic rainbow that sends you sliding down its curvy hues. The play is lively but remains kid friendly too. I especially liked sliding along the green vines. Oh, and be sure to collect all the right ingredients, because you get to bake a cupcake with them at the end of each game and sell them off for virtual cash to be used in the store.

The controls use the usual screen swipes to make the magic happen; swipe left and right to dodge obstacles laterally, swipe up or down to leap or tumble. The graphics look like the stuff Saturday morning cartoons are made of, with lots of saturation and vibrancy that’s pleasing to the eye. The animation is a bit slow and laggy at times, however, I did enjoy the visual triggers being rendered. The sounds are a tad annoying, to be honest; the sort of stuff that would certainly grate on the nerves with heavy repeat play.

Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Rush is just good fun. I loved that this runner is geared towards girls, but can be enjoyed by virtually anyone. It’s a solid runner with a great look.
